Experienced Clinical Psychologist in New Zealand: Supporting Diverse Populations

As a seasoned Clinical Psychologist, I bring a wealth of experience and expertise to my practice. Originally from Sri Lanka, I have been residing in New Zealand since 2018. I completed my graduate studies in Malaysia and postgraduate studies in Sri Lanka. In 2012, I successfully completed my studies and embarked on a career as a Clinical Psychologist.

My professional journey led me to the National Child Protection Authority in Sri Lanka in 2013, where I specialized in working with children and families affected by child abuse and neglect. This experience deepened my understanding of the impact of such trauma and honed my skills in providing support to these vulnerable populations.

In 2017, I registered as a Clinical Psychologist with the New Zealand Psychologists Board, marking a significant milestone in my career. Since 2018, I have been working as a Clinical Psychologist at the Waikato District Health Board (Waikato DHB), specifically within the Infant, Child, Adolescent Mental Health Services (ICAMHS) and the Child Development Centre (CDC).

My training encompasses a range of evidence-based therapeutic techniques, including CBT (Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and more. This diverse skill set allows me to tailor my approach to effectively support children, teenagers, adults, couples, and families from various social and cultural backgrounds.

In addition, I offer therapy in English and Sinhalese, ensuring accessibility and cultural sensitivity in my practice. Furthermore, I possess a basic understanding of New Zealand Sign Language, enabling effective communication and support for individuals with hearing impairments.

If you're seeking therapy from a compassionate and experienced Clinical Psychologist, I am here to provide the support you need. Together, we can navigate life's challenges and promote your overall well-being.

Experienced Hamilton-based Occupational Therapist: Enhancing Lives through Therapy

As a dedicated Occupational Therapist based in Hamilton, I have had the privilege of working with diverse clients, including children, teenagers, families, and adults. I firmly believe that therapy is a space where individuals can develop essential life skills, feel understood, and have their voices heard. One of my passions lies in working with families and understanding the dynamics that shape their experiences.

I employ a range of therapeutic techniques tailored to meet the unique needs of my clients and their families. These include attachment-based family therapy, expressive and creative therapy, play therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and the Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) approach.

With children and teenagers, I specialise in addressing a variety of concerns such as behaviour problems, anger management, ADHD, anxiety, depression, disordered eating, grief and loss, oppositional defiance, low self-esteem, school-related challenges, peer relationships, coping with change, and issues related to divorce.

When working with adults, I draw upon ACT, CBT, and an EFT approach to address anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, family conflicts, and parenting challenges.

Furthermore, I provide sensory assessments and interventions for children, teenagers, and adults who experience difficulties with sensory processing, which can impact their daily functioning.

My educational background includes a master's degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy, and a Bachelor's degree in Education. Prior to entering the mental health field, I worked as a pre-primary and primary school teacher, which has further enriched my understanding of individuals' developmental needs.

If you are seeking the expertise of a skilled Occupational Therapist in Hamilton, I am here to support you on your journey. Together, we can unlock your potential and enhance your overall well-being.
